NMHSRP welcome![]() Welcome to the website for the National Mental Health Seclusion and Restraint Project (NMHSRP). The NMHSRP is a collaborative initiative between the Australian Government and State and Territory Governments with the primary aim of reducing and, where possible, eliminating the use of seclusion and restraint in public mental health services. This site aims to support and facilitate the activities of the project through the development of a Community of Practice (CoP) and an online interactive communication and resource system. Latest NewsWhile the National Mental Health and Seclusion Project concluded on 30 June 2009, seclusion and restraint reduction in public mental health facilities continues as the work now passes to the state and territory jurisdictions. Continuation of the project website for the current year is thanks to the support of the Australian Government. The site will facilitate the continued communication and sharing of resources within the community of practice. National DocumentationIt is intended to share some of the learnings and resources from the project via the website, in particular, a suite of national documentation including definitions, key principles, guidelines for managing episodes, audit tools, the six core strategies and core education and training principles and priorities. The suite of National Documentation was endorsed by the Mental Health Standing Committee on 18 September 2009 for use in Australian mental health services. The suite of National Documents relating to seclusion and restraint can be downloaded here.
Stakeholder ForumsNational forums, of invited key stakeholder groups, were held in May 2008 and May 2009. A National Forum, to extend the final learnings of the project to a wider stakeholder group, was held in Sydney on 6 May 2009. The National Forum Agenda from 6 May 2009 can be downloaded here and the Session Presentations can be downloaded from the Resources Section of the Website (brown link button at left)
An earlier National Forum was held in Melbourne on 15 May 2008. The National Forum was attended by approximately 170 participants made up of stakeholder representatives and project participants. The National Forum Agenda from 15 May 2008 can be downloaded here and the Session Presentations can be downloaded from the Resources Section of the website.
